SEEKER

O God, you are my God, earnestly I seek you; my soul thirsts for you, my body longs for you, in a dry and weary land where there is no water.

Psalm 63:1 (NIV)

Have you ever been reading scripture and have a word jump out at you? I have and my word was “seek.” There was something about that word that the Lord wanted me to know. I looked up the definition of seek . . .

to restore to : go to: to go in search of: look for: to try to discover.

Whatever I was looking for I could tell in my heart that that was not it.

Then I asked the question, “What does it mean to be a seeker of the Lord?”

I thought on this for some time and the answer came to me. I will share with you the definition that the Lord gave me of a seeker.

A seeker is an individual who is willing to be transformed in the process of diligently pursuing Him

The key word in this definition is “transformed.” Why? The answer is that many people can seek God but a true seeker will allow God to transform them as a result of seeking Him.

Also meaning that “they change.” The way they think changes, the way they talk changes, their habits change, and many other things in their lives will change. Being a true seeker will bring constant change in the seekers life.

Some people seek God but they do not change. They go through the right steps or what the Bible would call “works” but in the end they do not change because they are not willing to submit their will to God.

“Do not be conformed to the pattern of this world, but transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is – his good, pleasing and perfect will.”

Romans 12:2 (NIV)

In order to be transformed of mind you need to be a true seeker of God. You can not seek God and not be willing to give up your own personal ideals that don’t come into alignment with God’s Word. A believer seeks God so he or she can become more like Christ.

Be a true seeker. Be willing to seek Him diligently. Be willing to be transformed.
